“The world wouldn’t spin without women
They listen and speak up
Strong for others even when weak.
Who are we to diminish the very queens that keep this ship afloat?
With the light they bring
They need to be appreciated and let shine oh so vibrantly.”
-round of applause for them

Following my previous short film, Mariposa, ”La Taza en La que Bebimos: a love letter (The Cup in Which We Drank)” is a two-part series about the women in my family and how their adversaries have affected future generations. This short film is a love letter I wrote to my mother, expressing honest emotions about how it has not only shaped her but also how she has shaped me into the person I am today.
To create a sense of immersion, I used a mix of archival footage and live footage to compare life then to now. I found it super nostalgic being able to go back and visit the small neighborhood that my mother grew up in and walk the same streets she used to. I stuck with the classical piece theme as I did with part one of this series.
This short film is to unveil the deeper feelings of what it’s like to come from a family who faced major adversaries and how it’s affected future generations. It is a love letter to my strong, strict, mother. We have a love hate relationship, which can get complicated at times and I’m sure many can resonate with that situation.
